Meets during BLUE 3

Open to returning members in 8th grade.

Eighth grade concert band provides students a balanced comprehensive study of music that develops skills in the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domains. Ensemble and solo activities are designed to develop elements of musicianship including tone production, technical skills, intonation, music reading skills, listening skills, analyzing music, studying historically significant styles of literature, and integration of other applicable disciplines. Students study a varied repertoire of developmentally appropriate concert band literature and develop the ability to understand and convey the composer’s intent in performance of music.

Our 8th grade concert band continues to develop and improve the mechanical, technical and expressive skills learned in beginning band through rigorous musical selections. The 8th grade concert band participates every spring in the ISSMA Junior High Organizational Festival in addition to multiple concerts throughout the school year.

ENCOURAGEMENT PROJECT (Due on Friday, May 15th)

1) Think of someone you know that could use some encouragement at this time (it could be a family member, close friend, a neighbor). This project is to use your gift of music to spread some cheer and joy to someone that needs it.
2) Pick out a piece of music, practice it well and record yourself playing something for that person that could really use some encouragement. The music can be any piece from any style or genre (it could be something from your method book, something you compose, or something you find online). Be creative and resourceful!! GO ALL OUT for that person you care about!
3) Write a note of encouragement for that special someone and submit it to the recipient.
4) By Friday, May 15th, you will need to submit a copy of your recording and your written note of encouragement to me via email (this will remain confidential)
